How to Use Viglink - Your Complete Guide
Viglink is simple to use, yet it can be complicated to many affiliate marketers. What's more, their official site's resources don't offer crystal-clear explanations, so the confusion can add up.
But really, Viglink is so simple to require too much explanation.
In a nutshell, Viglink is an affiliate marketing network with over 35,000 merchants under its belt. Meaning, if you sign up with the program, you've already signed up with these merchants.
How does it work?
Viglink is a smart way to monetize your website. It looks into the semantics of your posts, and when it recognizes a word, brand, or phrase that you can potentially earn from, it'll automatically create links that direct potential buyers to a retailer or merchant. Each link is equipped with a unique tracking ID, which the site calls an API key.
When the link is clicked and the user purchases from the linked retailer, you get a commission.
How does it different with the Amazon Associates Program?
Although Amazon has already introduced a similar feature called Publisher Studio (beta), but this still requires that you create your affiliate URLs manually. With Viglink, affiliate URLs are created by the system automatically.
There are three products of Viglink. Note that "products" here mean "features" or "functions" you'd like to use or activate. These are Viglink Convert, Viglink Anywhere, and Viglink Insert. What are their differences, and how can you use them?
1. Viglink Insert
Just like what it says, Viglink Insert automatically inserts links for you. Here's an example.
Say, your post has the following sentences.
"I went to purchase this pink Fujifilm XX camera before I headed out to the beach. Of course, I didn't forget my Nike top."
What Viglink does is to automatically create links for words it recognizes such as, in the example above, "Fujifilm XX camera" and "Nike."
To activate this function, head over to your account's Manage >> Settings. You should see the option when you scroll down the page, something like this.
2. Viglink Anywhere
Just because Viglink Insert takes care of link insertion doesn't mean you can't create affiliated links by yourself. This is done by Viglink Anywhere.
This tool allows you to create affiliated links that contain your API key.
To use this tool, simply copy the URL of the webpage of a merchant, and then head over to the Viglink Anywhere page (see screenshot below) to start affiliating the URL. This affiliated link can now be used in your website.
3. Viglink Convert
If you're a member of the Amazon Associates Program and have affiliated your links with your own Amazon tag, you can choose to command Viglink to re-affiliate the link, or you can choose NOT to.
Here's an example.
Say, in the sentence, "It's better to wear Hanes undershirt," you've created an Amazon link for "Hanes undershirt," using your own Amazon tag. You can choose to keep it that way, or configure Viglink Convert to re-affiliate it by simply ticking the "Reaffiliate Affiliated Links" option. See screenshot below.
1. Sign up for a FREE account.
2. Install a javascript in your website. A quick installation guide / procedure is provided in your account's Manage >> Install.
3. Create campaigns to track your website. Each campaign gives you a unique API key.
4. Customize Viglink Convert and Viglink Insert. Create affiliated links through Viglink Anywhere.
5. Go back to your blog and continue publishing.
That's it. Viglink will do the rest.
- It charges 25% from your commissions.
- Sometimes, your site can't have monetized links. Meaning, even though you'll see Viglink links in your content, you'll have to wait approval from the Viglink team before your links can make money. If your site has been banned by the Amazon Associates Program, all Amazon links will be non-monetized.
