Mottos That Affiliate Marketers Should Have

It's easy to give up in online / affiliate marketing. In my experience, I quit my job and decided to become an affiliate marketer. After months of trying without too much success, I started to question if I made the right decision. And then I had a eureka moment.

The takeaway is that you shouldn't give up. Keep going. If you give up today, who knows how close you are to success.

Here are some of the mottos I recited over and over whenever I felt frustrated, felt like giving up, or felt uninspired.

1. Keep going. Never give up.

Many times, we hear stories of successful people who had to go through heartbreaking failures before reaching the top. For instance, Amber Riley (Glee's Mercedes Jones) cried her heart out when she got rejected once. But she said she kept going. Look at her now.

Patrick Chan, an internationally renown Internet marketer, recalls being tricked into buying a software that promised success. Six months later, he made his first sale. Today he is Patrick Chan.

But you know what, these stories are easier said than done. After some time, you'll run out of money and start to call your friends to lend you some. It gets harder by the day especially if you live alone. Unpaid bills will make you want to go back to being a regular employee.

But know that after all your sacrifice, you'll say they're all worth it.

2. Get started.

I don't know about you, but one of the biggest challenges I encounter in almost everything is how to get started. If you're with me on this, our tendency is to NOT do anything until we figure our what exactly should we do.

But in a video I watched, I realized that NOT doing anything and spending hours to figure out how to get started isn't the solution. In fact, merely starting something IS the solution.

According to the video, there's something called the "Zeigarnik Effect," which makes us finish what we've started. For instance, if you're feeling lazy to write, scribble a title. The "Zeigarnik Effect" will want you to finish writing what you've scribbled.

3. Get everything.

Ivana Trump has been credited to have uttered this line in a movie she cameod in: "I don't get mad. I get everything."

Applying the same concept, I strive to be comprehensive yet concise in my affiliate sites. I also strive to include everything when it comes to the information on the products I promote. For instance, in a power tool site I own, I also promote gardening books, talk about gardening, and compare other brands.

4. Now!

If I think it, I act it. But since I'm not always online, I always bring my notebooks with me so I can write whatever is in my head at the moment. Also, don't be afraid to experiment and test your guesses. Some methods may not work for others but may work for you. The reverse is also true. Again, if you think it, act it.

5. Work smart. Work hard.

Time management can't be overly emphasized. Knowing how to use your time properly is your ticket to productivity. As I said, I always have my notebooks with me. Note that these are traditional notebooks, not laptops. They're easy to pull out when I'm waiting for the train (or even when I'm on the train). Plus, no one's going to steal them, so my data are safe.
