Tumblr's Authority on Google for Your Affiliate Marketing Efforts
Last year, I decided to perform a simple experiment to test Tumblr's authority on Google. I created two blogs targeting two keywords on bags -- one was highly searched (>10,000 searches) and the other wasn't (<2,000). Both of these keywords has less than 60,000 competing pages.
Here's what I did.
- Use Google Adwords to find these keywords.
- Check the number of competing webpages, but I did not check the links these competition had.
- Go to Amazon and pick my products.
- Publish content on Tumblr. Note that this content is not at all what I can say "quality content."
- Create one or two backlinks.
Here are my results.
- After four months, both blogs can be seen on top of Google SERPs given the keywords.
- These blogs eventually lost their rankings after a few weeks.
- They are never seen with top rankings again.
I tried to replicate this experiment with two new blogs targeting keywords with similar criteria. They only reached the third page and went down the rankings.
BOTTOMLINE:
Don't use Tumblr as an affiliate marketing site. The site is against it anyway. You can use Tumblr, though, to drive traffic to your site. Click here to know how I do it.
